Obituary

Ruby Pearl Floyd was born July 10, 1926 the oldest of five daughters born to Stacy (Martin) and Ervin Amos near Little Rock, Arkansas. She met Conard James “Pat” Thomas while working in Arizona and upon his discharge from service during World War II, they were married. Soon after, they ventured into trucking and a service station business in San Jose, California. Hearing of great opportunities in Shafter they sold their business interest in San Jose and moved to Shafter where they opened the Arrow Furniture in 1947 which is still under family ownership. As their business grew they were involved in local bowling leagues and tournaments which they sponsored. Ruby was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Shafter and was a past president. She retired in 2007 after sixty years in the family business. In her younger years, Ruby enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting as well as trips to Las Vegas and dancing at the Palomino Club in Los Angeles. Ruby is survived by her sons, Johnny Thomas and wife Carrie and Jim Thomas, all of Shafter; sister, Helen Dewey of Wyoming; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Thomas in 1971; and past husbands Paul Floyd and Tommy Burton; her parents; 3 sisters, Gerri, Chris and Phyllis; and a great-grandson, Josh Felsinger.
