Obituary for Garland Armstrong

Garland Armstrong was born in Armorel, Arkansas on September 22, 1930. Garland married his wife Jo in 1953 and they recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. They moved from Missouri to California in 1955. He was the son of Charlie and Lucy Armstrong. One of ten children with 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Garland passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.

Garland is survived by the love of his life Jo; sister, Jewel Lytle and brother-in-law Gene Lytle; numerous nieces,… nephews, and friends. Garland is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leo Armstrong, Cecil Armstrong, Clyde Armstrong, Gene Armstrong, and Leslie Armstrong; as well as his sisters, Janie Link, Clara Preston, and Maudie Graves.

He was employed by CPCSD for 33 years. After his retirement he enjoyed being at home, hunting dove and quail with his dog Lily, gardening, and shooting skeet with The Shafter Redneck Skeet Club.
Garland and Jo have been members of Valley Baptist since 1999. Their church family is just like family and they have been blessed to have their love and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Valley Baptist Church, Fruitvale campus, beginning at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Pastor Roger Spradlin will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter.
