In Loving Memory of Emilyn Reyes Blancada

Emilyn Reyes Blancada, “Em”, age 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Home in Bakersfield, CA. She was born May 17,1953 in Hong Kong, to Mistraim and Francisca Reyes. She was a graduate of Ruamrudee International School in Thailand and completed Secretarial Training from the College of Professional Studies in Bangkok in 1970. She continued her career as a secretary in 1988 with Chevron Corporation for 28 years while living in Oxnard and later moving to Bakersfield, CA in 1993.

Growing up, she was greatly influenced by music. Her father lead and instrumental band that performed in Hong Kong, her sister Sennie sang professionally in Thailand, her brother, Jun is a very talented pianist. Naturally, Emilyn developed a love for music. She played the bass guitar in her younger years and even served for a period of time as a choir leader in her church. Various songs from artists like Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Patsy Cline, Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald, The Letterman, The Beatles, Linda Ronstadt, and so many more were among favorites that she’d listen to often. She carried that love all the way through to her grandchildren, influencing them with genres of music they would’ve never otherwise learned to know if it weren’t for her.

Emilyn truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; singing away to her favorite songs, enjoying every chance she could get on a beach, taking long walks outdoors, traveling, reading novels, watching sunsets, exploring antique shops, snacking on chocolates, oranges, or spicy thai food- her favorites. She cherished mostly spending time with her family and friends. She had the ability to take on life in the most positive way and was a delight to be around, a ray of sunshine, a happy person who made others happy with her warmth, kindness, and bright smile. Her heart was always full of love for her family and friends, and she was loved and cherished by many. She will forever be in the hearts of those whose lives she’s touched. Her presence here will be missed.

Emilyn will forever be remembered by her lifelong love, Bill Cottle, daughters; Cheryl (Wayne) Franklin, Jillian Blancada, son, Erik (Paloma) Blancada, grandchildren; Jacob, Janessa, Sean, Coby, Omari, Emersyn, her sisters; Emma Reyes, Sennie (Ron) Hamar, brother, Mistraim “Jun” (Rose) Reyes. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces; Gina Cancino, Cierina Reyes, Lynn Jasmine, nephews; Jun Cristobal, Brian Reyes, Neftaly Reyes, Jason Reyes, Jonathan Reyes, Christopher Reyes, along with all of their extended families and dear friends.
