Obituary for María 'Tita' Sifuentes

On January 3, 2017 at 5:38 am, Maria passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Maria was born on May 2, 1946 to Refugio and Julia Gamboa in Laguna Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico. She married Feliciano “Chano” Sifuentes on December 26, 1969 and made Shafter their home, shortly thereafter. They bought their first home on Olson Avenue and lived happily for 47 years. Maria worked very hard in the labor field pruning roses, hoeing cotton, picking and packing grapes. She worked for… Superior Farming Co, Armstrong Nurseries and Jackson and Perkins for many years until she was no longer able to work. She was an active member of St. Theresa’s Sociedad Guadalupana for many years. She enjoyed volunteering in all the activities especially preparing for the festivities of Our Lady of Guadalupe, going to Fresno for the annual “peregrinacion” and dancing the night away at the annual New Year’s Eve dances. She enjoyed shopping, eating out every Sunday after church, dressing her best and dancing. She cherished her family and enjoyed making them fresh flour tortillas, tamales and her famous enchiladas. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses. Unfortunately all her energy was consumed by her many ailments and was no longer able to do the things she loved most. She is preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Julia Gamboa; daughter, Judith Edith Sifuentes; brothers, Manuel Gamboa, Gilberto Gamboa, Samuel Gamboa, Rogelio Gamboa and sister, Rosavelia Montoya. She is survived by her devoted husband and companion, Feliciano “Chano” Sifuentes; son, Marco Antonio Sifuentes (Candace); daughter, Virginia Ramirez (Santiago); beloved grandchildren: Cristian, Evan, Emilee, Calista and Alyssa; brother, Rafael Gamboa, sisters, Graciela Sanchez, Irma Reimer and Mary Kroeker; and many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Monday, January 9th from 2pm to 5:30 pm at Peters Funeral home in Shafter, Ca followed with a rosary and viewing at 6:30 pm at St. Theresa’s Church in Shafter, Ca. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 10th at 10 am, at St Theresa’s Church. Burial will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
