Obituary for Ingrid Zulema Renken

Ingrid Renken, 75, passed away on February 25, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Ingrid was born in Mexico City and grew up in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Her parents were Zulema Canales Zuniga and Fernando Estrada. When she graduated from high school, she came to UC Berkeley to be an architect; instead, she graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in social work. On August 7, 1965 she married the love of her life, Wolfgang Renken. In September of 1966, they moved… to Wasco, California where they lived for 41 years before moving to Shafter, California. She stayed home raising her three children and was involved in their various activities. By participating in their school activities, she knew that when the time came for her to go back to work, she wanted to be a teacher and then prepared to be one. When her oldest child, Christian, was a senior in high school, Ingrid started a wonderful 20 year teaching career. During this time, her children married and the grandchildren started coming. Dear to her is her parish, St. John’s Evangelist Church which she has attended for 51 years. After retiring in 2004, she was active in her church, P.E.O., Wasco Woman’s Club, Shafter Woman’s Club, and volunteered at the Guild House as a waitress for 11 years. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her 9 grandchildren and attending their activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Wolfgang; her three children: Christian (and Melinda) Renken, Karla (and Randy) Bloemhof, and Brian (and Lesley) Renken; her nine grandchildren: Sierra, Carsten and Braeden Renken; Garrett, Kaitlin, Andrew, and Kelsie Bloemhof; and Madison and Lindsay Renken; and her loving four-legged companion, Benji.
The family would like to thank dear friends, family, and Hoffman Hospice for all the love and support. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at Peters Funeral Home in Wasco, on Wednesday, February 28th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Evangelist Church, on Thursday, March 1st at 11:00 a.m., burial will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
