On the morning of September 22, 2022, Fidel Martinez Gomez, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 82, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Fidel was born on December 31st, 1939 in El Rancho La Morita, San Benito, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He was born to Severino and Maria de Jesus Gomez and the youngest of 11 siblings.
He migrated to Uvalde, Texas as a young boy, where he attended school and worked as a ranch hand. In 1959, he and his family migrated to California where he worked in agricultural irrigation, farm equipment mechanics, and as a musician on the weekends. In 1964 he married Alicia Garcia and settled in Kern County. From 1965 to 1970 they had four Children: Fidel Jr., Anna Alicia, Fidencio and Beatriz. Fidel & Alicia raised their family in Shafter where he worked as a field foreman at Jackson & Perkins a.k.a Bear Creek Corp. until his retirement in 2000. In 1993 he attended Shafter High night school, earned his High School diploma and he proudly became a U.S. citizen. From 1986 to 2018, Fidel became the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Fidel enjoyed playing the accordion and singing and was sought after for family celebrations and Catholic Church gatherings. He loved traveling back to his birthplace where he built a vacation home and embarked in many traveling adventures with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Severino Villarreal Gomez and Maria Jesus Martinez de Gomez, eight siblings: Victoriana Garza, Arcadio Gomez, Maria (Tita) Gonzales, Matias Modesto Gomez, Severino Gomez, Pablo Gomez, Librado Gomez and Juanita Martinez, and two grandchildren, Angela Albiar and Jade Gomez.
He is survived by his wife Alicia, four children and their spouses: Fidel Jr. and Susan Jane Gomez, Anna Alicia and Carlos Albiar, Fidencio Gomez and Ida Ramos, Beatriz and Hector Soliz and 16 Grandchildren: (Gomez) Jessica, Marcos, (Albiar) Adreanna, Nathan, Caitlynn, Nicholas. , Carlos Jr., (Gomez) Alexandrea & Rudy Ramirez, (Gomez) Vincent, Jewel, Amber, Jaydeen; Ruby Medina, (Soliz) Hector Jr, Fabian and Serena. 9 great grandchildren: Sully & Gambit Mallett, Jubilee McClellan, Gavin & Leilani Gomez, Zoey Albiar, Kaden & Kynslee Ramirez, Abigail Gomez and two siblings: Fidela Aleman and Concepcion Gomez and many nieces & nephews.
