Obituary for Jay Dennis Dunlap
Jay Dennis Dunlap was born in Bakersfield, Ca. on November 14, 1954 to parents, J.D. and Myrtle (Crawford) Dunlap. Jay married the love of his life, Sonja Lynn (Rodocker) Dunlap on August 24, 1974. Jay was a social man, he loved to share about his life and learn about others. There was nothing he wouldnt do for his friends and family; if you ever needed anything from him, all you had to do was ask for his help. Jay enjoyed going fishing and playing cards on Sundays. He also liked to watch his… favorite sports teams: The Lakers, Dodgers and Trojans. Jay enjoyed being active, even after an accident that left him in a wheelchair, he still got out to play wheelchair basketball and even go skiing. He also cherished his little lapdog, and enjoyed having a constant friend.
Jay will be dearly missed; he is survived by his sons, Jay Dunlap Jr. (Sharon), Michael Dunlap (Alaya), and Joshua Dunlap; his grandchildren, Jayme, Hudson, Skyler, Asher, and Ember Dunlap; his sisters, Barbara Adams and Joy Dunlap; his nieces Kristen Haslam (Jackson) and family, Leann Gonzalez (Paul) and family, Jessica Guillen (Nabor) and family; nephews, Austen Asbury and Raymond Mungle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja Dunlap; and his parents, J.D. and Myrtle Dunlap; and his granddaughter, Sloan Dunlap.
A graveside service will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Friday, May 12, 2017 beginning at 10am. A viewing will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4-8pm.
