Obituary for Carmen Leyva

Carmen V. Leyva was born in Stillwell Canyon, Texas on April 8, 1924 to parents Colonel Luis Villarreal and Leonor Del Bosque. Carmen was raised on the Stillwell Cattle Ranch in Texas. As a young girl, she moved to Cuidad Acuña, Mexico, where she met her husband Jesus Trevino Leyva. They were married in 1944 then moved to Shafter California in 1955. Carmen was a woman of many talents. She made the adobe bricks that went into her first home. She participated in building several of her future… homes. Carmen was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her family. Carmen was known as the local seamstress and was also known as “La abogada sin titulo”; she provided legal help to her friends even though she had no law degree.
Carmen entered eternal life on March 14, 2018 in Shafter, Ca.
Carmen is survived by her brother Luis Del Bosque Villarreal and her children; Alma (George) Aguilar, Jess (Cindy) Leyva, Roy (Lucinda) Leyva, Joseph ,Natalia Leyva, Leslie Leyva, Irma Leticia (Rick) Simpson, George (Yolanda) Leyva, Ricardo (Brenda) Leyva, Isaac (Carmen) Leyva; 38 grandchildren, 39 Great grandchildren, 7 Great Great grandchildren;. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesus Trevino Leyva; her parents; Col. Luis Villarreal and Leonor Del Bosque; daughter, Leonor Blanca Leyva; sisters, Amalia Prendez, Manuela Albiar, Consuelo Siller; brothers, Eusebio Villarreal and Lucio Villarreal.
A viewing and service will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 9:00-10:30am at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. A graveside service will follow at 11am at Shafter Memorial Park.
