Obituary for James "Jim" W. Gloeckler
James W. Gloeckler, 94, of Shafter, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, in Bakersfield. Jim was born in Waldheim, Saskatchewan on September 27, 1924. As a very young child, his family traveled from Canada and settled in the Shafter-Wasco area. Jim attend Maple School and Wasco High School. At age 17, he and many other young men were taken out of school to serve in our Military. After returning from the WWII, Jim returned to Shafter, finishing his education, living on the homestead and… worked in farming. He retired from Superior Oil, many years later.
Days were spent traveling with his wife, Betty, which included salmon fishing, trailering, beach vacations and working in his shop, building and creating many custom projects for so many friends and the Shafter community. His favorite hobby, the restoration of 8N Ford tractors, which included 30, of which he completely restored.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and son, Bob Gloeckler. Jim is survived by his twin daughters, Beverly Lewis (Jim) of Tempe, Arizona , Barbara Higgins (Don) of Bakersfield and Susan Gloeckler of Camarillo, daughter-in-law.
Grandchildren include Brent Smith (Debbie) Cadence, Mya, Chloe and Josh,
Michael Gloeckler (Angela) Owen, Sienna and Talia,
Brandie Hagaman (Damien), Harper and Hayden, Christy Robinett (Ryan).
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, October 30th, 11:00 AM, at The Shafter Memorial Park. Friends and family will gather for Lunch at noon, at the Shafter Mennonite Church.
