Obituary for Cora Lee Mason

Cora Lee Mason was born February 1, 1928 in Hitchcock, Oklahoma, to Bryan and Eunice Mize. Cora moved to California with her family during the Dust Bowl days in 1938. They traveled from Missouri to Texas where they joined with other family members and continued their journey across the country to California. She met Freeman W. Mason at the young age of 15, and after WWII they married and made their home in Bakersfield. Together they raised their two daughters. Cora stayed home to raise Candace… and Cheryl then later went back to school to work in Early Childhood Education. Cora was a very quiet person with a beautiful smile. She loved quilting and sewing, but her true talent was in embroidery. Cora and her sister Rose would enter their handicrafts into the Kern County Fair competition and would always come home with a ribbon. She was a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She passed away May 25, 2017 in Bakersfield, California.

She is survived by, daughters, Candace Claffy, of Bakersfield, California and Cheryl (Bill) Peeples, of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Robert Claffy, Charlene Claffy, Joseph Peeples and Jolene Peeples-Barnett; great grandchildren, Emily Claffy, Ryan Brown, Jacob Brown, Madison Claffy, Korbyn Peebles, Phoenix Sherfield, Leo Sherfield and Mallory Peebles.

Mrs. Cora Lee Mason will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Freeman Wheeler Mason on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4-8 pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter, California.
