Obituary
Janice Ann Schaffer Feil, 79, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 23, 2014. Jan was born November 22, 1934, in Chico, California, to Ike and Edna Schaffer. She attended Pacific Bible Institute (now Fresno Pacific University) before marrying Arly Feil in 1954. In 1959, the family settled in Shafter, where Jan helped her husband establish and operate Arly’s Appliance. Jan’s faith was an important part of her life, reflected in her sincere love of people and her consistently sweet nature. As a member of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, Jan served for a time with her husband in the deaconate, and was always involved in ministry and volunteer opportunities. She especially appreciated the friendship of the Beacon Sunday School class and other small groups. Jan was an outstanding homemaker who loved cooking and quilting, often making gifts for friends and family. She was a gracious hostess, eager to share her love and her listening ear. She enjoyed reading, playing piano, working in her garden, and relaxing at the coast with her husband. She was a volunteer with the Shafter Election Board for many years. Grieving his loss is Jan’s husband of 60 years, Arly Feil, and their children: Rhonda and Greg Haworth of Austin, Texas; Rod and Sue Feil of Bakersfield, and Ryan and Linden Feil of Fair Oaks, plus five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Carlton, and two sisters, Norma Welty and Christine Jefferson, also survive, plus many friends and extended family members. A private family burial will be followed by a memorial service at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church on October 30 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate contributions to the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church for the Jan Feil Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
