Floyd Allan Davis, Sr. was born February 25, 1938 in Augusta, Arkansas one of three children born to Jewell Pauline (Everett) and Thomas Isaac Davis. Floyd grew up in Arkansas and the family moved to Gilbert, Arizona where he met his future wife, Vona M. Adkins. They married January 25, 1958 in Mesa, Arizona and moved to Shafter in 1963. Floyd worked in agriculture all his life working for Charles Mitchell, Lee Bergman and retiring from Jackson & Perkins Rose Growers. Floyd was an outside person and could be always be found working in his garden, feeding the chickens or going camping and fishing. Floyd had a good personality and never met a person he didn't like. His children and their friends always enjoyed being at the Davis house when growing up and he gave each one of his grandchildren a nick-name.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vona Davis; children, Floyd Jr. and wife Kim, Lynn and husband Matthew Johnston, David and wife Susan, and Brian (Skeeter) and wife Terri, all of Bakersfield; sister, Doris and husband Tom Kinsey of Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Thomas "Tommy."
A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held Friday June 29, at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Floyd Allan Davis, Sr., age 74, of Bakersfield who passed away June 22, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. His nephew, Pastor Robert Brown will officiate the service and interment will follow.
