Obituary for Federico C. Alarcon

Federico was born in 1931, to Manuel and Elvira Alarcón in Presidio, Durango, Mexico. He was the oldest of 11 children. As a young man he came to the United States to earn a living and to help his family in Mexico by sending back money. He met Tomasa Tarango who had caught his eye because of her leather cowboy jacket with leather fringe; they were married in 1957. He was by trade a farmer and worked for various ranches in Arizona and later in California. His natural talent and understanding… of crops often led to his rise in the ranks and he would end up in a Managerial position. The family came to Shafter in 1976, and he retired from Sun World in 1996. Federico had a synchronicity with row crops that helped to provide him with an excellent yield. He was known as the "King of the Row Crop", a title he was quite proud of. Federico was a wonderful husband and father. He taught his children and grandchildren what was important in life by example. He believed a person should be hardworking, faithful and love their family. His grandchildren have often been heard to say "When I grow up I want to be just like Tata". He loved his family dearly, and there was little he would withhold from them, if it was at all possible to grant them anything, he never hesitated to fulfill their wishes. Federico was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Raul and sisters, Olivia and Ofelia, and nephew Ruben Alarcon, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Tomasa; children, Alicia and her children, April and James Sugden; Eliza (Sean/Guero) and their children, Edward, Richard, Sean and Isaac and great-granddaughter, Jaelynn Caudillo; Federico, Jr. (Norma) and their children, Alicia, Beatriz, Federico III and Melissa Alarcon; Jaime (Connie) and their children, Sarena, Gabriel "Es Libre", and Clarissa Alarcón; his brothers, Manuel, Jessie, Ruben, Rudy; Sisters, Leonor, Mary, Lupe; and countless nieces, nephews, in-laws and Godchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Bakersfield, and interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park. Federico, you will be missed and you will not be alone, your daughter, Eliza will be there daily since she works at Shafter Cemetery. We love you Daddy!
