Erlinda Castro August 15, 1949 – November 5, 2010
Erlinda Castro was born August 15, 1949 in Delano, California to Ysidra (Luna) and Felix Hernandez, one of six children. She grew up in Wasco attending Wasco elementary schools and graduating from Wasco Union High School with the Class of 1968. Erlinda married Juan Castro June 8, 1968 in Wasco. Erlinda worked as a bi-lingual instructor for 17 years working in Stanislaus and Tulare Counties, McFarland, Karl Clemens School in Wasco and Richland School District in Shafter. Erlinda was very active and enjoyed sewing, crafts and writing poetry in her spare time. She was a leader when her girls were in Brownies and Girl Scouts; a volunteer for the Police Activities League; and working with the Bakersfield Police Department as a Domestic Violence Counselor for the Women’s Shelter. But she will be most remembered as being a very generous person, being a good listener, a strong shoulder of support and giving good advice to her family and many friends. Erlinda is survived by her husband of 42 years, Juan Castro of Shafter; sons, Juan Gabriel of Shafter, Ysidro of Oceanside and Elias of Shafter; daughters, Mardie and husband Travis Pablo, Shana and husband Michael Miller and Summer Castro, all of Shafter; brother, Michael Hernandez and wife Michelle of Selma; sisters, Barbara and husband Leslie Sharp of Shafter; Julia and husband Teofilo Gonzalez of Lamont; Lorie Hernandez of Bakersfield and Carmelita and husband Carmen Holguin of McFarland; 12 grandchildren and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Ysidra Hernandez. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 12, at 12 noon at Peters Funeral Home for Erlinda Castro, age 61, of Shafter who passed away November 4, 2010 in Bakersfield.
