Obituary for James 'Jim' Miller

James “Jimbo” Miller went home to be with the Lord on August 12, 2017. Jim was born February 15, 1938 in Stigler, OK to Lester & Iona Miller. Jim moved to California in 1947 and graduated from Shafter High School in 1956. He married Marylan Warren on July 28, 1956 and this year they celebrated 61 years together. They had two children, Tim and Melany. Jim began working for Phil Jeffries Farms as a teenager after school and during summers. He continued there until 1967 and then went to work… for Belridge Oil. Shell Oil purchased Belridge Oil and Jim retired in 1993. He continued to work in the oil industry 2 or 3 months a year until he retired for good in 2000. Retirement was no life of leisure for Jim. He was always doing a project at his house or for one of his children or his mom. Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on October 31, 1973. He and Marylan were members of the First Southern Baptist Church in Shafter. Jim enjoyed serving at the church and no job was too big or too small. He was a true servant and he was devoted to his family. Jim has lovingly and patiently cared for his wife these past few years. Jim was “Papa” to four grandchildren. They enjoyed his jokes, his cooking and monopoly and sleepovers at his house. Tim and Melany were blessed to have such a special dad. He will be greatly missed. Jim was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June. During his short illness, Jim continued to focus on the needs of others and give kindness and grace to all he came in contact with. Surviving him are his wife, Marylan; son, Tim Miller and wife Stephanie; daughter, Melany Millwee and husband Jeff; granddaughter, Moriah Hunter and husband Cameron; grandsons, Kyle, Matthew and Aaron Millwee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2-8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter. Services will be on Thursday, August 17, 10:30a.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Shafter with graveside interment to follow.
