Obituary for Davied Pearl Leak

Davied Pearl Leak, 88, of Bakersfield California, passed away Tuesday March 27, 2012. Davied was born December 28, 1923 in Brady, Garvin, OK. to the late John Franklin and Ruby Ellen Grumbles. Davied attended Maple Elementary and Shafter High School in Shafter, CA. She graduated from Shafter High in 1943. During her time there, she participated in athletics, and was active in several clubs on campus. Davied was voted Campus Queen by the student body in 1943. Davied was set up on a blind date… in 1943, where she met the love of her life, James Eldon Leak. They communicated with letters for 2 years while Jim was away during World War II. They married in 1945, and settled in Bakersfield where they raised 4 children; James Michael, David Andrew, Kendall Robert, and Kerry Beth. Davied was an administrative assistant for over 20 years at West High School in Bakersfield. Over those 20 years, she rarely missed a West High Viking football game. She was also a big fan of the Oakland Raiders, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Davied was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Grumbles; and her sisters, Juanita Belle, Lottia Anna, and LaVada Jewell. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Leak; and children Michael and wife Aurora, David and wife Linda, Kendall and wife Tammy, and daughter Kerry Leak. Grandchildren Erin and Shelly Leak, Kristina Lovell, and Sean Stimpson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Rosewood Skilled Nursing Facility, and Hoffman Hospice for their excellent care and kindness. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday March 31 at the Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, CA.
