Barbara Bain Petker passed away on Sunday, October 13th at Rosewood Adult Living Community . A Celebration of her life is being planned for Saturday, November 9th at 2pm at the Rosewood in Bakersfield California.
Barbara Bain was born in Fowler, California, on September 25th 1932 to Frank Oscar Bain and Margaret Robb Bain. She had one older brother, Bill Bain.
Barbara went to William Penn Elementary School and graduated from Bakersfield High School. Barbara went to Bakersfield College where she fell in love with Robert Petker of Wasco.
Barbara was a gifted pianist and organist. She was the organist for the Mennonite Brethren Church of Bakersfield and the First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield for many years.
In 1959 Bob and Barbara left for Germany and France to begin a three year adventure teaching US Army Dependent Schools. This adventure took the family on many trips to many beautiful places in Europe. After returning to California they continued their traveling adventures by taking tour groups to many places around the world.
Barbara and Bob had two children Anne Petker Dickau, Allan Petker, and honorary daughter Amarint Miller. Barbara had four grandchildren- Joshua Petker, Jennifer Dickau Robinson, Colin Dickau and Elyce Petker Berigan-Dunlop. She also had six great grandchildren- Katie Robinson, Annalise Robinson, Alex Robinson,Isabella Petker, Andrew Miller and Dalyse Miller. Nieces: Jere Bain Christianson, Marla Bain Ekstrom, Joan Robb Moorman, Jan Steward Wolfe, Cindy Steward Meek. Nephews: Randy Bain and Tom Steward.
