Obituary for John Baptiste Butler
John Baptiste Butler was born in Los Angeles on September 16, 1924. John grew up in the Fullerton area, along with his two older brothers and an older and younger sister. He attended the University of California Berkeley and then partnered with his brother LD until 1950, brokering potatoes in the Los Angeles area. In 1948 he married Rosemary Munding, the love of his life, and two years later they moved to Bakersfield before settling in Shafter. His career as a farmer and independent broker… required spending much of the week in Gonzales, California, happily coming home each Friday to spend weekends with his wife, children, a good book, his Wall Street Journal and occasionally playing a round with his golf buddies. John loved to travel and enjoyed spinning tales of his trips to Russia, India and the Panama Canal. His many aphorisms live on with his many good friends and family.
He leaves behind sons Michael Butler (Lisa), Greg Butler and Paul Butler (Audrey) and his daughter Suzanne Altman (Alan).. He is survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Since Rosemary passed away in 2014 after 66 years of marriage there wasn’t a day where he didn’t speak of how much he missed her. It is a blessing that they are finally reunited.
The Holy Rosary will be recited on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Peters Funeral Homes – Shafter Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Shafter Memorial Park.
