Obituary for Mamie "Mame" Evelyn Janzen

Mamie "Mame" Evelyn Janzen was welcomed into the prescence of the Lord on June 4, 2018. She was an 82 year old resident of Carrington Assisted Living, Shafter, California.
Mame was born on a farm near Ringwood Oklahoma on November 16, 1935 to Arnold and Elizabeth (Smith) Wedel. Mame attended grade school in Helena, Oklahoma. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and attended the West New Hopedale Mennonite Church with her parents. She attended high school at the Oklahoma… Bible Academy, Meno, Oklahoma and graduated in 1953. She then attended college at Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, Nebraska. While there, she met the love of her life, Orlando "Lon" Janzen. They were married August 14, 1954 and remained devoted to each other until Lon's death in 2012. They had three children: Randy, LaVonne & Brenda and spent over 40 years in the Enid, Oklahoma area. In 2010 they retired to Reedley, California.
Mame was an accomplished pianist and organist and played for many years at the Grace Mennonite Church. She gave piano lessons to many children over the years and worked at the Cherokee Park School in the music department. Later she enjoyed singing in the Emmanuel Baptist Church Choir.
Mame loved her family and enjoyed it when her children and their families could get together for her wonderful meals. She loved holidays, especially Christmas. She also enjoyed sewing and made many of her children's clothes when they were growing up. She is very much loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
Mame was preceeded in death by her parents, Arnold & Elizabeth Wedel and her husband of 57 years, Lon Janzen. She is survived by her children; Randy Janzen & his wife Sharon of Visalia, California; LaVonne Unruh & her husband Tim of Shafter, California; Brenda Luskey & her husband Michael of Meade, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Dustin Janzen & his wife Rachel, Annie Miller & her husband Brandon, Renee Janzen, Stephanie McCaslin & her husband Dustin, Travis Unruh & his wife Heather, Sean Luskey, Andrew Luskey; and four great grandchildren: Emmy Janzen, Wesley Miller, Faith McCaslin and Luke McCaslin.
A graveside service will be held at the Shafter Cemetery on June 8, 2018 at 9:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at the Shafter Mennonite Brethern Church. Memorial gifts can be given to Great Plains Christian Radio through the Peters Funeral Home, Shafter, CA.
