Obituary for Janet Barclay Peterson

Janet Barclay Peterson has passed away at the age of 92 in her home in Shafter. She died of natural causes early on the morning of Monday August 14, 2017. Janet was preceded in death by her sweetheart John L. Peterson 25 months earlier in July of 2015. She lost her first child and only daughter Jill in May of 2014. She is survived by her only son, John Scott, and by her beloved daughter -in -law Kim. Janet loved her 4 grandchildren, Whitney, Blake, Taylor, and Tanner. She adored her 3 great-grandchildren… Emma, Sofia, and Adaline.
Janet was born May 30, 1925 as the eldest child of William Douglas Scottie Barclay and Rhoda Adeline Lewis. She had 3 younger brothers Daniel, Jack, and Scott. Janet is the last of her immediate Barclay family to pass. She was born in the hamlet of Treasureton, Idaho in southeastern Idaho. She was raised in the town of Paul, Idaho near the banks of the Snake River in south-central Idaho. Her father was born in Scotland, and Janet was fiercely proud of her Scottish heritage. Janet graduated from Paul High School in 1942 and studied at BYU during the height of the Second World War. After WW2, Janet met her future husband John L. on a blind date, and they were married in 1947. John and Janet were never separated for more than a couple of days in a love affair that lasted 68 years. Janet taught high school for 2 years in eastern Utah, and elementary school for 30 years in her adopted home state of California. Hundreds of former school children from Maple School owe their ability to read and remember their multiplication tables to Mrs. Peterson.
Janet was an only daughter, a beloved sister, an adored wife, a loving mother, a generous grandmother, a proud great- grandmother, a tireless teacher, a volunteer coach and a passionate chorister. Janet is now finally reunited with her husband, her daughter, her parents, and her brothers in the world of spirits. She now prepares for the most important reunion of all with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Janet Peterson is Joyously welcomed by those who have gone ahead, and painfully missed by those of us who are left behind.
