Boyd Jackson Shepherd, pastor of the Church of God, in Shafter, CA. passed away on November 21, 2013 at the age of 75 in Bakersfield, CA. Boyd was born June 7, 1938 in Bakersfield, CA. to parents Carroll Jackson and Lena Allene (Brooks) Shepherd. Boyd was raised in Buttonwillow, CA and moved to Shafter in 1987. Boyd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Shepherd of Shafter and children Madeleine Shepherd of Shafter, CA. and Jeff and Kristi Shepherd of Bakersfield, CA. Grandchildren Adam and Tracy Parker of Lemore, CA. Kelley Parker and Zach Sherwood of Shafter CA. Joey Aguirre of La Mirada, CA. Chase and Jordan Shepherd of Bakersfield, CA. Great Granddaughter Jestina and several nieces and nephews. Boyd is also survived by 2 brothers his twin Loyd , younger brother Floyd and 2 sisters, Joyce Long of Lake Isabella, CA. and Pat Miller of Los Osos, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Boyd attended Elk Hills Elementary, Taft High School, and Taft Collage where he graduated in 1959. Boyd was a farmer on his family farm in Buttonwillow from 1959 retiring in 1995. Boyd was ordained as a Bishop in 2000 by the Church of God of Cleveland, Tennessee. Boyd served as pastor for several churches from 1969 until his death. He loved spending time with his family and working in his vegetable garden. Boyd was a friend to all and will always be remembered for his humor and laughter. Viewing will be Monday, November 25th from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 26th at 11:00am at Shafter Cemetery.
