Dannie  Harris

Dannie Harris was born in Wasco, CA on June 5,1949 to Jack C. Harris and Arvilla I. (Daniel) Harris. Dannie was raised in Shafter, CA and graduated from Shafter High School in 1967. He continued his education at Bakersfield College before proudly serving our country when he joined the United States Army in 1970. He served as a Specialist 4th Class Mechanized Infantry Track Driver in the 23rd Infantry Regiment in Germany. He married the love of his life, Sheryl (McGinty) Harris on November 2,1974 in Shafter, CA. and enjoyed 46 happy years together. Dannie pursued higher education going on to earn his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from University of Redlands in 1999. Dannie had a heart for civic duty as he began his 35 year career in law enforcement with the City of Shafter Police Department. He transitioned to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department working his way up through the ranks serving as a Deputy Sheriff, S.W.A.T. team member and academy instructor. He retired as a Commander in 1997. Retirement did not last for long as he then began teaching law enforcement at San Joaquin Vocational College. Dannie concluded his career serving in the private prison system as Captain in Delano and Assistance Warden in McFarland and Bakersfield. Of all of Dannie’s many accomplishments, his greatest was his devotion to his family. Dannie’s love for his family resulted in the making of many family memories through travel, laughter and countless adventures. Dannie also enjoyed building relationships and involvement with his church family. Dannie exchanged his earthly address for his heavenly home on May 12, 2021 at the age of 71 at San Joaquin Adventist Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Dannie was a great husband, dad, Papa to Tyler and Emily and Papo to Hannah and Jack.

Dannie is survived by his beloved wife, Sheryl Harris; daughters, Danee Parks and husband Brian Parks of San Diego, Jenny Harris of Bakersfield; son, Jason Harris and wife Jennifer Harris of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Tyler Parks, Emily Parks, Hannah Harris and Jack Harris.
